Who Am I?

Kristi%20Nelson
Quantcast

There's a lot of things I could tell you.

I enjoy laughter and sunshine, music and dancing, and finding the way out of a shrubbery maze. I also love to live and create.

I'm quite silly. Really. Sometimes I don't know when to quit and I step over the line. This is when my mama calls me uncooth.

I grew up in Southern Orange County, California with the beautiful beach. Many mornings when I would awake as a wee lass there would be blankets of fog that I just wanted to fly into and get lost.

I often get lost. Even when I look it up on google maps.

Anyway, about the music. I started playing piano when I was a kid on vacation in Montana at my Grandparents house. They had a Nelson piano and I would try to figure out songs like "A Nightingale Sang In Berkeley Square" in my Grandma Ruth's old book. That is still one of my favorite songs. YAY for old music.

Sometimes I think I should have been born a lot sooner than I was. But then we wouldn't have computers and I would be at a loss. I like to geek out on computers. I do websites for part of my living.

One of my dreams came true a couple years ago...
I found an '81 Chevy School Bus and it was already converted into a mobile pad! I moved myself right into her (Buski) and started driving around playing shows. I ended up getting stuck in Santa Cruz for weeks with a busted alternator! Shit. There are a lot of bums in Santa Cruz.
One time, a cop woke me up at 5am knocking on my bus window. These were some of the many adventures I had in Santa Cruz. I'm writing a book about my travels. But I don't feel like I have enough material yet.

That is because I feel like I've got a lot more living to do yet...

Hopefully that'll pan out.

I can do spine tingling impersonations of the following Chanteusses: Alanis Morissette, Michael Bolton, Michael McDonald, Cher, Louis Armstrong, and probably more. I might even be able to "do" you.

Songs come from my dreams, my imagination, and my heart... and singin' them to ya, well it's just my favorite little thing to do.

I'm a DoItYourself kinda lass. I record my songs with a iBook and some basic hardware using Garageband.

I probably was a mermaid in some other life I can't remember. Do you believe in fish-people? Um, yeah.. me neither.

It feels more natural to look and spin to the left. The ocean tumbling me head over feet looks and feels fun. I like to play dress up and talk in funny voices. It must be an inherited trait because all of my cousins do it too and we can go on for hours in these voices and someday I'm afraid I'll forget what I really sound like and end up talking in "the Grandma voice" for the rest of my days.

Doubling over in laughter suits us all well. I like to contribute to that whenever possible. Also, I like crying a good cry.

When you can see right through me it makes me feel a little of that good nervous thing. I write about that sometimes... it happens to me a lot because I'm a very transparent sort of person. But I do keep secrets.

Wanna know a secret?

I convinced my little brother Rhett to help me build a fire one time in the front yard. We were elementary status at the time, yo. Then when the magnifying glass conjured a conflagration, our Mum came outside.. We had successfully pissed her off. I blamed the entired occasion on my little bro. Sorry dude. That was pretty jerkish of me.

I like writing songs where strangers make appearances. I like you because you're reading this and I'm esteemed that you've made it this far.

My headphones are cozy on my head even after hours of recording. I get lost in a world of sound sometimes for months. It's really like an Alice afternoon. I like to dream about songs.

Falling asleep in the sunlight and waking up with a strange tan is fun.

I prefer lions like Aslan.

I tend to gravitate toward highly eccentric people. The oddity makes life more fun.

I'm a serious lover of Deep Thoughts by Jack Handey.
They really make me happy.
